Weitzman Institute Announces the Weitzman Science to Practice Summary Report on a Novel Educational Approach to Alcohol Use Disorder

The Weitzman Institute is proud to announce the release of the Weitzman Science to Practice: Summary Report on a Novel Educational Approach to Alcohol Use Disorder. Supported by a National Institute of Health (NIH) R25 Research Education award, Science to Practice reimagines how clinicians engage with research—transforming the traditional journal club into an interactive, virtual experience that brings evidence to life.

Launched in June 2025, Science to Practice is designed to close the research-to-practice gap by connecting primary care and behavioral health providers working at federally qualified health centers and other safety net primary care settings with both academic researchers and clinical experts. Each session examines peer-reviewed articles focused on critical health topics, encouraging discussion on how to apply evidence-based findings to real-world challenges. By combining research literacy with practical, actionable strategies, participants leave each session better equipped to translate scientific insights into improved patient care.

The first sessions of Weitzman Science to Practice: Alcohol Use Disorder focused on exploring evidence-based approaches to AUD screening, assessment, and treatment in primary care. The newly released summary report captures key insights, participant feedback, and early outcomes from these initial sessions, demonstrating how this innovative model can strengthen the connection between research and real-world practice. The findings underscore Weitzman’s commitment to equipping clinicians with the tools and confidence to integrate current evidence into high-quality care for individuals living with Alcohol Use Disorder.
