The Digital Transformation in Social Determinants of Health: Transportation
Recorded on November 12th, 2020
Adequate and reliable transportation services are fundamental to healthy patients and communities. Lack of transportation can have a significant impact on one’s health and on the ability to make healthy lifestyle choices, such as regular physical activity, access to healthcare, ability to purchase healthy foods, and ability to maintain social connections. Further, a lack of transportation is the leading cause of patient no-shows for medical appointments, leading to delayed care, increased emergency room visits, increased costs for patients, and disruption in patient care and provider-patient relationships. The problem is widespread. The AHA reports that each year 3.6 million people do not obtain medical care due to transportation issues. Fortunately, the non-emergency medical transportation industry is going through a transformative period. Join us as we hear from a group of exciting innovators and disruptors who are creating powerful technology-based solutions to move from screening for transportation needs to solving for them.
